NOTES
Released for the first time, one of Jim's finest studio recordings, digitally re-mastered.
All done without overdubs in a single session on July 4, 1988, at Red River Studios in Bossier City.
Includes several songs that are exclusive to this collection.
Midway through my tenure as an afternoon radio personality at KWKH, I began planning an album. I was hosting the
New Louisiana Hayride Show in Bossier City and producing the Louisiana State Fiddlers’ Championship downstate—both of
which gave me plenty of inspiration for new song material. On July 4, 1988 I took my Guild D-70 guitar into Red River
Studio in Bossier and recorded a set of ten original songs. That solo session—engineered by Charles Smith—included three
spontaneous medleys {recorded in one take} with no overdubs. It served as a “demo” for my cassette album Greetings from
Texas—released the following year.
In retrospect, the 1988 Red River Session stands out as one of my finest studio recordings. Digitally re-mastered from
the original 2-track analog tape, this 29-minute limited edition is now available from Front Room Music for the first time.
My belated thanks to Charles for helping with the original recording and to my friend Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Digital
Audio in Austin for bringing RR session back to life two decades later. This CD is respectfully dedicated to the Caddo
Indians of the Ark-La-Tex region. The Kadohadacho were among the most accomplished of native American tribes, known for
their advanced technical skills and cultural development.
